Before there was #CallMeCaitlyn, there was #BREAKTHEINTERNET. Now, six months after Paper magazine’s Kim Kardashian issue shattered newsstand records and unleashed a torrent of memes, Paper’s Editorial Director Mickey Boardman and Chief Creative Officer Drew Elliott have taken to Genius to annotate the original feature.
“ #BREAKTHEINTERNET spoiled us the way Air France First Class ruined my life.” Boardman says in an annotation. “Once you fly Air France First Class it literally ruins you forever. How could you settle for less?”
Their insights range from first impressions of Kim (“ She is the best famous person I think I have ever seen”) to what it’s like collaborating with photographer Jean-Paul Goude (“such a ball of energy!”) to notes on the shoot’s aftermath, including the e-mail Kim sent Paper the day after the cover made its rounds.
Boardman also used Genius to annotate his Wikipedia page, where he discusses his childhood affection for going to McDonald’s and watching The Love Boat.
