Get a Grip was released on April 20, 1993, and is Aerosmith’s eleventh studio album.
The album received mixed reviews when compared with its predecessor, 1989’s Pump, which received critical acclaim. In spite of this, Get a Grip spawned a number of hit singles including, “Eat the Rich”, “Cryin”, “Amazing”, “Crazy” and “Livin' on the Edge”. The latter won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal, a Best Video award from Metal Edge magazine and a Viewer’s Choice award at the MTV Video Music Awards.
The title of the album is a double entendre, meaning to both regain one’s senses and to milk a cow. The latter definition is aided by the album’s cover art, which features an image of a pierced udder. An animal rights group objected to the use of the image, however Aerosmith have confirmed that it was computer-generated.
Get a Grip topped Billboard’s 200 chart and spent a total of 92 weeks in the charts. The album was also #1 in Switzerland, #2 in the Neterlands and #3 in Australia.
Get a Grip is certified 7x Platinum by the RIAA:
It is also certified diamond in Canada and platinum in Germany.
