Submarine

Submarine is Alex Turner’s first official solo release. It is also the original soundtrack to a 2010 film of the same name, directed by Richard Ayoade, a friend and collaborator of Turner.

In a 2018 interview with Apple Music’s Beats 1, Turner described the putting together of the soundtrack (which consists largely, if not entirely, of songs Turner had already written) as a “bit of a fluke”, saying:

“Around that time, I think it were…it were just before Suck It and See, actually, there were a few tunes I had [that didn’t quite] fit the bill…things happened where they had shot something that really worked with, like, one of the lyrics…I feel like, yeah, it were… it were a bit of a fluke on my part, anyway.”
