Goddamnit

Alkaline Trio

About “Goddamnit”

Goddamnit was the first full length released by Alkaline trio, featuring songs from their founding in 1996 to its recording in 98. The album was released on Asian Man Records with Mike Park describing it as a perfect record.

During the writing of this album Matt and Glenn were working as bike messengers in Chicago as they worked to build up the band. The grind of daily life in the city inspired much of this album, tracks like Cringe recount the tiredness of early mornings, riding bikes in all weather hoping for something better to come about.

There are a few songs Matt wrote for a girl that he described himself as infatuated and head over heals for, a waitress at a resteraunt he frequented. One of these includes Nose Over Tail, which was the first song the band wrote.

The album is a collection of heartfelt and honest songs exploring the emotions of early adulthood, from experiencing the daily grind of work, love and heartbreak, a desire for new and greater experiences, depression and self-destructive tendencies.
