I Am Me

Ashlee Simpson

About “I Am Me”

I Am Me is the second studio album by American recording artist Ashlee Simpson, released on October 18, 2005. I Am Me reunited Simpson with producers John Shanks and Kara DioGuardi, who helped produce her debut album, Autobiography (2004). Sonically, Simpson infuses both the pop and the rock genre into I Am Me as she did with Autobiography.

The album was successful during it’s release, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, selling 220,000 copies in it’s first week. I Am Me marked Simpsons second album to peak at number one, the first being Autobiography.

Though not released on the standard edition of the album, bonus tracks Kicking and Screaming, Fall In Love With Me and Get Nasty were featured on the Japan release of the album.

As of May 01, 2008, the album has sold a total of 944,000 copies.

  • What was Simpson's mentality when recording the album?

I was definitely in a place where I did feel a bit broken. There were moments where I was searching for that on songs like “ Beautifully Broken”.

  • What have the artists said about the album?

For me, with my records, I’m pretty personal and it’s a way of… it’s like a diary entry. This record, it’s cool that I also don’t have the reality show, so a lot of it is your imagination this time. But, you know, I do like to make my records really personal and the reason I went with I Am Me for this record [is that] no matter what I’ve gone through, my highs and my lows this year, and even before, I’m always… who I am. In a song, I can be happy or I can be in a bad mood or whatever. Whenever I’m writing a song, I always speak my mind, always am myself.
