Vulnicura

About “Vulnicura”

Vulnicura is the ninth studio album by Björk. The album was supposed to be released in March 2015 but due to a leak, Björk and her team decided to release it on January 20th, 2015. Björk herself inaugurated the anticipated release of the album through a statement on her official Facebook page.

The album was written in 2013, the year Björk and her partner Matthew Barney broke up, and it documents the progressive deterioration of the relationship and the subsequent overcoming of her pain. These two phases are symbolized by “the wound and the healing of the wound”.

Producer Arca contacted Björk in late summer of 2013 and they started working on the beats of the songs. Then Björk wrote string and choir arrangements and recorded them in Iceland. The album was mixed by The Haxan Cloak, who also made beats for one half of “Family”.

Vulnicura was physically released on March 9th, 2015.
