Blondie

About “Blondie”

After two years of performing in the crowded, rowdy punk venues of New York City, Blondie emerged with their self-titled debut in late 1976. With the help of producer Richard Gottehrer, who had worked with girl groups in the sixties (and later with girl-group The Go-Go’s), the band were able to finally engrave their decade-old power-pop sound into wax without it sounding incredibly dated.

The album and its singles were originally under the independent Private Stock, but then changed hands to Chrysalis records when Private Stock sold itself to the California record label.

Although songs like “X-Offender”, “In the Flesh”, and “Rip Her To Shreds” Were received well by the New York scene and charted in Australia and the UK, Blondie’s debut ultimately failed to gain them traction in the states. However, Blondie along with its successor Plastic Letters are regarded today as cult classics of Blondie’s “punk era”.
