About “The Curse of Blondie”

The Curse of Blondie is Blondie’s eighth studio album, and second album released since their reunion in 1998. Lead singer Debbie Harry thought of the title, and stated in her autobiography Face It that it felt fitting with the group’s misfortune at the time. Blondie had just moved from Beyond records, which had gone bankrupt, to Sony Music and were caught in a period of tumultuous change.

The album received mixed reviews. Rolling Stone gave it two stars in criticism of its attempts at genre-surfing rather than sticking to the new wave they know best (the very same reason that Autoamerican received a scathing one-star review), but Uncut deemed its works “a pop masterclass”. Despite any of its reviews, the album did not sell well and only released one single, “Good Boys”.
