Nashville Skyline

Bob Dylan

About “Nashville Skyline”

Nashville Skyline is Bob Dylan’s 9th studio album, released on April 9, 1969 through Columbia Records. Prefigured by the two songs— “Down Along the Cove” and “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight"—that closed 1967’s John Wesley Harding. Nashville Skyline is an album of unpretentious country music sung by Dylan in a low croon.

Recording sessions were held at Columbia Studio A in Nashville, Tennessee between the 13th and 18th of February, although most of the takes used for the album were cut on the 13th and 14th. “Of Bob Dylan”, a poem written by Johnny Cash for the album’s liner notes, won the Grammy Award for Best Album Notes at the 12th Annual Grammy Awards. Dylan Biographer Clinton Heylin notes that “according to Dylan, the album was going to be called John Wesley Harding Vol. 2 at one point.”
