Originally released as David Bowie in the UK and Man of Words/Man of Music in the US, David Bowie’s second album was reissued as Space Oddity in 1972. It was known under the name of its lead single – by far the most famous song on the album – on four subsequent releases, but from 2009 was released under its original name of David Bowie. Confusingly, so is Bowie’s 1967 début.
Although the lead single hit #5 in the UK, and eventually reached #1 in 1975, the album was less successful, peaking at #17 in the UK and #16 in the US. Bowie was just getting started…
