About “Deftones”

Deftones is the self-titled fourth LP from Deftones. It was released on Maverick Records and produced entirely by the band and was the last album to feature production from Terry Date. It spawned two singles, Hexagram and Minerva and reached Gold status with over 500,000 copies sold. Deftones is much different than the band’s previous efforts due to the diverse genres it takes influence from. It introduces keyboards and synthesizers provided by Frank Delgado. The album was a critical success despite performing worse than their previous effort White Pony.

The band refers to the time period while recording this album as “the dark days”. They claim that they were all disconnected from each other, using Pro Tools to record and let them all come in separately. The subsequent tour was also hard on the band, claiming that the dark days followed them there.
