Elvis’ Greatest Shit

Elvis Presley

About “Elvis’ Greatest Shit”

This legendary bootleg purported to show the absolute worst of Elvis' career, as a criticism of his exploitation in life and deification in death. Its point was to prove that, contrary to popular image, Elvis was capable of making bad songs. Many of the selections were musical numbers from his prolific film career, covering 12 films from 1961 to 1969. Most of them weren’t well-recieved even at the time, and Elvis himself was known to hold a low opinion on several of them.

These criticisms extended to the packaging. The front cover used a photo of Elvis' funeral taken from National Enquirer, and bore the slogan “50,000,000 Elvis fans can be wrong!” The rear cover and liner notes pointed fingers at everyone from Elvis' physician Dr. Nichopoulous to his manager Col. Tom Parker. Not even his label RCA Victor was safe, referred to on some copies as RCA Victim and others as Dog Vomit Records.
