Apple Jam

George Harrison

About “Apple Jam”

Apple Jam is the third disc of George Harrison’s triple album All Things Must Pass. The songs are instrumentals apart from the opening track It’s Johnny’s Birthday. The album names of course makes a double entendre on jam as in jam to be eaten as well as jams to be played. ‘Apple’ might be a reference to the Beatles-owned record label Apple Records, on which the entire triple album was released on.

In a December 2000 interview with Billboard magazine, Harrison made it clear it was separate from the original album:

For the jams, I didn’t want to just throw [them] in the cupboard, and yet at the same time it wasn’t part of the record; that’s why I put it on a separate label to go in the package as a kind of bonus.
