This is the final album that features bassist, Carlos Dengler.
I think we decided to name the record Interpol before he [Carlos] left the band, although he left the band before the record was done. He had done his parts and then he left the band. I like the idea that there’s something laid bare about it, like, “This is us and this is who we are.” I was never aware that there was a precedent that debut records we supposed to be self-titled. I was just like, “It feels good to make this one self-titled.” And then I think there’s cool artwork for this record. I really like the cover a lot."
Paul Banks describing the album in an interview.
