Jimmy Eat World signed to Capital Records and released Static Prevails in 1996. Unlike their debut album in which Tom Linton bore the brunt of lead vocals, Static Prevails boasts an even mix between Tom and Jim Adkins taking the lead.
The band has stopped playing songs from this record at concerts, as they believe that the end product was more a reflection of what Capital Records wanted and not how the band wanted to sound.
In 2007, the album was re-released and included “77 Satellites” and “What Would I Say to You Now”, which were previously released on the Singles album.
