Blue Banisters

Lana Del Rey

About “Blue Banisters”

Blue Banisters is the eighth studio album from Lana Del Rey.

The album was officially announced on April 27, 2021, where she revealed the initial artwork and a release date of July 4, 2021.

One day after the release of her seventh studio album, Chemtrails Over the Country Club, Lana took to Instagram to announce her next studio album, Rock Candy Sweet. In an Instagram Story defending herself against a negative article from Bazaar Magazine, she stated that she ‘wanted revenge’ and that she would be getting it on this album, writing:

Just want to say thank you again for the kind articles like this one and for reminding me that my career was built on cultural appropriation and glamorizing domestic abuse. I will continue those thoughts on my next record on June 1st titled Rock Candy Sweet.

Lana teased the possible cover art in an Instagram post on March 20.

On April 27, Lana took to Instagram to announce that more music was on the way, and an entirely separate album would be released on July 4, 2021.

On May 20, the album’s first and second tracks, “Text Book” and “Blue Banisters,” produced by Gabe Simon, and the eleventh track, “Wildflower Wildfire,” produced by Mike Dean and co-written with Sage Skolfield and Sean Solymar, were released.

On July 4, 2021, Lana delayed the album, sharing an updated cover art with the caption “TBD.” She also shared a snippet of a new song with the caption:

Album out later later… Single out soonish. Have a good fourth x

Finally, on September 8, 2021, the album’s pre-order was released along with its fourth single “Arcadia,” revealing the album would be released on October 22, 2021.

“Blue Banisters” Q&A

  • Translations

  • What have the artists said about the album?

I guess you could say this album is about what it was like, what happened, and what it’s like now.
If you’re interested go back and listen to the first three songs I put out earlier. They chronicle the beginning. This song hits somewhere in the middle and by the time the record drops you will hear where we’re at today.
As much as the on going criticism has been trying, it at least has pushed me to explore my own family tree, to dig deep, and to continue to exhibit the fact that God only cares about how I move through the world.
And for all of the skepticism about feigning fragility and unreasonable explanations of not showing general accountability- I must say I’ve enjoyed moving through the world beautifully- as a woman with grace and dignity.
Thank you to my friends over the last 18 years who have been an example of attraction not promotion. I’ve never felt the need to promote myself or tell my story, but if you’re interested this album does tell it- and does pretty much nothing more.

  • Is Jack Antonoff the producer of Blue Banisters?

It’s still not confirmed if Jack Antonoff is going to produce this album. However, in the day that Chemtrails Over the Country Club was released, Jack tweeted about his memories of producing it. And right after, he tweeted that he was back to the studio. This might be a hint that Jack is involved in the production of Blue Banisters.
