How the West Was Won

Led Zeppelin

About “How the West Was Won”

The third live album by English band Led Zeppelin is actually a triple album that covered the band’s performances from their North American Tour 1972. How The West Was Won was recorded at the L.A. Forum on 25 June 1972 and Long Beach Arena on 27 June 1972, and the band considers these to be some of their best acts; guitarist Jimmy Page recalled:

I think what we did on … How the West was Won – that 1972 gig – is pretty much a testament of how good it was. It would have been nice to have had a little more visual recordings, but there you go. That’s the conundrum of Led Zeppelin!

This triple live album was certified gold and platinum by the RIAA on the 30th of June 2003.

“How the West Was Won” Q&A

  • Why weren't new tracks added in the remastered version?

    Page said in an interview:

I’m not entirely sure why ‘Tangerine’ was left off because it was really good. But I didn’t want to mess with the album so we haven’t added it or any other tracks. What’s important, though, is that you can get the album on vinyl for the first time. It’s a jolly good 5.1 mix too.
