Madame X - Music from the Theater Xperience (Live) Tracklist

About “Madame X - Music from the Theater Xperience (Live)”

Madame X – Music from the Theater Xperience is Madonna’s sixth live album. It was recorded in January 2020 during the six Lisbon dates of her eleventh and namesake tour, which promoted the record Madame X, her fourteenth studio album.

Portugal was the obvious choice to record the concert due to Madonna’s connection to the country. The singer moved to Lisbon in 2017, and her experiences in there were the main inspiration behind Madame X.

The tour marked the first time in which the artist chose to perform exclusively on theatres. During the premiere of the film, Madonna commented on the subject:

There was nothing between me and the crowd, and that was an incredible experience. I needed to document that — the process, the rehearsals, the show itself, what was in my mind, what inspires certain songs. It’s a different show, it’s a different time in my life.

Since the shows happened in such small venues and there was a strict phone ban in all of them, only the people who attented the concerts were able to actually see it (despite a few minor low quality leaks of some who managed to record it — most of those were taken down). So when the documentary was announced, Madonna released the following statement:

Sharing my vision with global audiences has been profoundly meaningful to me. The opportunity to bring its message and the incandescent artistry of all involved to an even wider audience comes at a time when music is so deeply needed to remind us of the sacred bond of our shared humanity.

The documentary consists in a video recording of the concert accompanied by this live album. It premiered in September 2021 during a private screening in New York City, being later available exclusively on Paramount+ (and broadcasted via MTV in the countries in which the streaming platform hasn’t arrived yet). It is unclear whether or not the film will get a physical DVD/Blu-Ray release like Madonna’s previous tours.

“Madame X - Music from the Theater Xperience (Live)” Q&A

  • Translations

  • Is there a trailer for the video recording?

  • Why was it important for Madonna to be involved in every aspect of the film?

This question was aked by Maluma during Musicians on Musicians: Madonna & Maluma, an interview hosted by Rolling Stone. He pointed out that Madonna was not only the creative director for the tour, but also the documentary, working with everything, wardrobe, set design, choreography and more. She replied:

Because the entire show is an extension of me. I love dance, I love art, I love set design. I love video, I love film, I love fashion, clothes. So, A., because I love all of those things. But B., because every aspect of the show is an extension of me, I feel like I need to pay attention to all the details.

He then proceeded to ask why she decided to be director and co-writer for the film, to which she added:

My show is my vision, my philosophy, my soul. I need to orchestrate everything. I have a message, and I need to be clear about it. I can’t rely on other people to do it for me.
