Released on July 27, 1983, it’s Madonna’s self titled debut album. It peaked at #8 on the Billboard 200 in 1984 and spawned five singles: “Everybody”, Madonna’s debut single, “Burning Up”, “Holiday”, her Hot 100 debut, “Lucky Star”, her first top 5 and “Borderline”.

The disco influenced production helped set the standard for dance-pop and launched Madonna into superstardom.

In October 2000, it was certified five times platinum in the U.S., having sold over 12 million copies worldwide.

By 1985, the record was reissued in Europe with a different cover art and under the name Madonna: The First Album.
