True Blue is the third studio album by Madonna. Madonna co-wrote and co-produced the album as she sings themes such as love and her then-lover, Sean Penn. The album features a wide-range of sounds (besides pop) such as classical music and acoustic instruments. The album was met with critical acclaim and was a worldwide success. It was number one in twenty-eight countries across the world, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States.

It’s the world’s top-selling album of 1986 & the best-selling album of the 1980s by a female artist, with estimated sales of over twenty-five million copies worldwide. To this day, True Blue remains one of the best-selling albums of all time. The album’s singles (“Live to Tell”, “Papa Don’t Preach”, “True Blue”, “Open Your Heart”, and “La Isla Bonita”) all made it into the top-five, and some were number-one on the Billboard Hot 100.
