On The Beach, was Neil Young’s first studio album in almost two years, an acoustic yet apocalyptic prophecy that concentrated on anguish and terror. Hysterical ballads inspired by rural Southern folk like “Walk On” and “Revolution Blues”, easily contrasts the transcendent nature of “Ambulance Blues” which stands out in all of its calmness for eight intense minutes. Along with his next work, Tonight’s the Night, Young overturned his melancholy confessional style with his more lonely side of songwriting.
