About “All Things Bright and Beautiful”

All Things Bright and Beautiful” is Adam Young or Owl City’s third studio album.

In the US, the album has sold around 120,000 copies to this day. In Germany, the album reached No. 69 for one week, then dropped. In the UK, the album reached No. 30 on June 23, but later in the week fell off the charts.

During an interview with The Christian Post, Adam said the following on the album’s composition:

Generally, anything my imagination latched onto, I just started writing about. Thematically, however, the new album is very much centered around a very organic, natural, “forest” inspiration, very much fueled by my dislike of big cities and my appreciation for the pure, unspoiled innocence of the deep countryside.

“All Things Bright and Beautiful” Q&A

  • What inspired you to write "Plant Life"?

According to Songfacts, Adam wrote this track about longing for the end of winter during one of his home state’s bitterly cold weather spells. He told Spin Magazine :

There’s this lack of life in Minnesota and I wanted to sort of play off that,“ he told Spin magazine. "It got my mind thinking: What would life be like for a person trapped in a haunted house, where all these daisies are popping up through the floorboards, and there’s ghosts and bears and stuff. It’s about a likable guy living in a melancholy world.

  • What is the origin of the album title?

According to Songfacts, Adam Young gave more details about the origin of the album title in an interview with Christianity Today magazine:

I was raised singing the hymn in church, and my mother was a huge fan of Herriot’s literary works and always had them around the house. The title was floating around in my head for who knows how long before I put two and two together and said, ‘That’s it. That’s what the new record has to be called.’
