About “Backspacer”

Backspacer is an album released in 2009 by grunge/alternative rock band Pearl Jam. It is their 9th studio album overall and the first they released through their independent label Monkeywrench Records. It was the first album of theirs that topped the US Billboard 200 since 1996’s No Code, topping several other countries' charts at around the same time.

The album is one of the shortest in the band’s discography, clocking in at around 36:38. It features a sound heavily influenced by pop and new wave, as well as lyrics that were more optimistic than those in other albums such as Riot Act and their self-titled release, something vocalist Eddie Vedder attributed to the election of President Barack Obama at the time.
