About “Yield”

Yield is the fifth studio album by the grunge band Pearl Jam. This album may not be as grunge as their first 3 albums but it still has some influence from them. Pearl Jam went more in an experimental direction with this one trying to find a new style but still with their grungey roots.

Yield was given many more positive reviews compared to it’s predecessor No Code. This album was said to be better because it went back to the band’s roots in more of a straightforward rock sound.

Gossard said about this album’s writing, “The songs were a little bit more structured. I don’t know if it was poppier, but it seemed more professional.”

Yield was released on February 3, 1998, on CD, vinyl, cassette, and MiniDisc. Epic promoted the album more than No Code, with marketing vice-president Steve Barnett claiming it was the first time since debut album Ten that the label “had the lead time to do the job right.”
