“Cream” is the 4th track and 2nd single from Prince & The New Power Generation’s 1991 album Diamonds and Pearls.

It was released on September 9, 1991, via Paisley Park Records and Warner Records, Inc.

The song received positive reviews, charting in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Europe, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States, where it became Prince’s 5th and final No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Cleveland ranked “Cream” at No. 33 on their 2020 list “Every No. 1 song of the 1990s ranked from worst to best”, stating that the song:

realizes the sultry funk odyssey Prince was going for on his 13th studio album [Diamonds and Pearls].
