About “The Undertaker”

The Undertaker is an unreleased album recorded live and in one take by Prince with bassist Sonny Thompson and drummer Michael Bland. It was originally intended to be included with the December 1994 issue of Guitar World magazine but Warner Bros. Records refused to authorize the release. All seven songs were recorded live to DAT and showcase Prince’s virtuosic guitar skills. The tracklist is a mix of songs that were unreleased at that time (but would later be fleshed out/re-recorded), covers, improvisational jams, and an old classic. The sessions were captured on video and Warner Bros. ultimately released the footage as a VHS album exclusively in Europe in March 1995.
