Hyæna

Siouxsie and the Banshees

About “Hyæna”

Hyæna is the sixth studio album by Siouxsie and the Banshees, and the only one to feature Robert Smith (of The Cure) on guitars, following the firing of previous guitarist John McGeoch due to his alcohol abuse.

Released in 1984, the album sees the Banshees present a more psychedelic sound, with some keyboard-driven moments remiscent of some cuts off Kaleidoscope, as opposed to the earthy strings of A Kiss in the Dreamhouse – although opener “Dazzle” features an orchestral beginning and end. The US edition of the album included the Banshees' cover of the Beatles' hit “Dear Prudence”, previously released as a single.

Robert Smith would notably go on to reuse the piano riff for “Swimming Horses” on The Cure’s “Six Different Ways” from The Head on the Door a year later.
