SYR 6: Koncertas Stan Brakhage prisiminimui

Sonic Youth

About “SYR 6: Koncertas Stan Brakhage prisiminimui”

Stan Brakhage was one of the most prominent American underground film-makers. He passed away in March 9th, 2003, leaving a large body of work of over 200 titles, most of them silent experimental films.

On April 12th that same year, Sonic Youth was invited to play a benefit concert at the Anthology Film Archives in New York. Percussionist Tim Barnes joined while some of Brakhage’s films and some previously unreleased footage were projected behind them.

The recording was released a couple of years later as part 6 of the SYR series. As usual, the liner notes were not in English. This time the language chosen was Lithuanian, the native language of Brakhage’s friend, fellow experimental film-maker and Anthology Film Archives founder Jonas Mekas. The title translates to “Concert in Memory of Stan Brakhage”.
