Texas Flood

Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble

About “Texas Flood”

“Texas Flood” is the debut album by texan blues-rock band Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, composed at the time by guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan, bassist Tommy Shannon and drummer Chris Layton.

The album was released on June 13, 1983; and would be mainly recorded at Jackson Browne’s “Down Town Studio” in Los Angeles, CA.
The story says that after performing in the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1982 and jamming with him until 8 in the morning, Browne offered the band his studio for free. They ended up recording the album in two days, with no overdubs; and it’s said that the tapes that were used for the recordings of Texas Flood were the safety tapes for Browne’s Lawyers in Love.
John Hammond roled as executive producer after his son John Hammond Jr. met the band at Montreux and gave him the tapes of the gig. Hammond Sr. would also be the link between the band and Epic Records A&R.

Among the 10 tracks that the album is composed of, two original songs, Pride and Joy and Love Struck Baby, were released as a single.

Texas Flood would sell half a million copies in its first months, peak at #38 on the Billboard 200 chart immediately after its release and be certified double-platinum, selling two million copies in the US only.
