Closer Than Together is The Avett Brother’s tenth studio album and their fifth record working with Rick Rubin.

The mission statement for this record can be read here. Scott and Seth acknowledge that they never want to make a truly sociopolitical record, if only because there are already enough ‘hot takes’ on the current state of the American political landscape to go around.

The band acknowledges, however, that art is informed by the age in which it is created, and they cannot ignore their own feelings of the chaos that they witness every single day in America. If, however, they were to ever craft a “sociopolitical album”, as they put it, it would probably sound something like this.
