Telepathic Surgery

The Flaming Lips

About “Telepathic Surgery”

Telepathic Surgery is the third studio album by the Flaming Lips, and the last to feature original drummer Richard English. Sonically, it differs significantly from the rest of their discography, with looser, less structured songs and a more noise-rock-oriented sound.

In a 2017 interview with Consequence of Sound, Wayne Coyne said the album’s sound was heavily influenced by acts like Sonic Youth and the Butthole Surfers. Coyne also expressed a degree of distaste for the record, claiming he never listens to it and stating, “I don’t think we were very good at doing the noise stuff… I think we will always just be too wimpy. We will always just want to go back to doing weird sounds and being emotional.”
