Suitably named for the offset product of completed craft projects, Sawdust is a compilation album of rarities and B-sides by American indie-rock group The Killers. It was released in 2007, a year after their second LP Sam’s Town and a year before their third, Day & Age.
Pitchfork described the varied collection as “a hodgepodge of everything they’ve tried in the past as well as a few things they’ll no doubt try again in the future.”
The album was preceded by two singles: “Shadowplay”, a cover of the Joy Division song of the same name, and “Tranquilize”, a Flowers-penned original featuring Lou Reed.
Sawdust peaked at #12 on the Billboard 200, dramatically underselling the bands previous studio LPs. Despite this predictable shortfalling, it was as critically successful as their official releases, garnering generally positive reviews.
