Dark in Here

The twentieth studio album by the Mountain Goats, Dark in Here was written at the same time as the band’s previous studio album, Getting Into Knives, and conceived as a darker companion to that album, both musically and conceptually. The album was recorded in March 2020 at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL, and was originally planned to be surprise released right after Getting Into Knives to coincide with the band’s 2020 tour, but the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent release of Songs for Pierre Chuvin changed that plan.

Dark in Here was eventually announced on April 18, 2021, on the third night of the band’s Jordan Lake Sessions livestream concert series. Lead single “Mobile” was made available on streaming platforms that night.
