About “Ramones”

Ramones was recorded in one week during February 1976 at Plaza Sound Studio in New York City for $6400. It altered the course of music history by being arguably the first punk rock album. Its gritty, fast guitar sound, simple lyrics, and stripped down d.i.y. aesthetic inspired countless bands on both sides of the Atlantic to start their own bands. Songs like “Blitzkrieg Bop,” “Beat on the Brat,” “Judy is a Punk,” and “53rd and 3rd” became anthems of the movement and acted as an antidote to the bloated guitar rock of the late 1970s. The album is popularly and critically acclaimed and appears on many lists of the greatest albums of the ‘70s and all time.
