This collection of 34 Latin motets was a joint project by composers Thomas Tallis and William Byrd after they were jointly granted a license to print music. Though the ambitious work was dedicated to Queen Elizabeth I herself, it failed financially, so the composers had to ask for additional help from the queen to cover the shortfall.
