Variations on an Elizabethan Theme

A rare instance of a collaborative effort by classical composers, this set of variations (on a keyboard work by the 16th-century composer William Byrd) was penned by six different British composers for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in June 1953. It debuted on a BBC radio broadcast conducted by Benjamin Britten.
