Long-distance relationships can be very very tough, and only work out very rarely. She is wholly in love with him, making it even harder that she never sees him. She feels that her life has just become a dreary, monotonous hole, where she is consumed with desire for him.

This is a quote from Frank O'Hara’s poem called My Heart:
I don’t wear brown and grey suits all the time, do I? No. I wear workshirts to the opera, often. I want my feet to be bare, I want my face to be shaven, and my heart- you can’t plan on the heart, but the better part of it, my poetry, is open.
Frank O'Hara was a 50s poet who was famous for his expressionism and stream of conscious method of writing. His poems mainly focused on different aspects of love.
She relates to this line as she understands that nobody can possibly fathom why and how love works, it’s completely abstract. It’s not rational for her to love someone who is so far away, but she does nonetheless.

Stockholm, First Aid Kit’s hometown can get pretty cold, the coldest temperature recorded being -15 celsius., but usually it ranges from -5 to -1 celsius, making it perfect white snow weather.
This snow is white, and therefore pure – it is exactly what it looks like. She acknowledges that there is no need to pretend to be something you aren’t. Yet she can’t stand be so outwardly vulnerable to the people she knows.
