1. Lana often refers to her love interests as “Daddy”, which has strong sexual connotations, it is a reference to “Lolita” by Vladimir Nabokov. Incidentally this is also the name of one of her songs on Born To Die, “Lolita”.
- “Daddy” can be also reference the main hustler in a criminal group, or a sugar daddy. A pervading theme through Lana’s music is her involvement with criminal characters.

The combination of the fact of the song title and the fact that it’s summer implies it is the 4th of July. Which, is effectively America Day. On the 4th of July, many people set off fireworks, and in the intro there’s the sound of fireworks in the background.
It seems quite iconic that Lana’s new relationship of materialism starts on the day which celebrates America. This thirst for money is now everything that America stands for.
