The “heart shaped sunglasses” are a reference to a poster for Lolita (1962), the original novel being by Vladimir Nabokov, which explores the themes of loss of innocence in humans. Lana even has a song called Lolita!
In Lolita, Lolita finds herself curious about something she shouldn’t be – her stepfather. Just as how Lana shouldn’t be pursuing this bad guy.
Also she really does wear heart-shaped sunglasses.
In the novel, “Lolita” (real name Dolores) doesn’t become interested in her step father, he molests her and then lies to the audience about it. The movie poster for the film adaptation is referenced here to further the theme of a toxic relationship held together by social standards and the public eye.
wearing heart shaped sunglasses is usually used as a metaphor for looking at life with positivity, or looking at the bright side of things. she not only “asks” her lover to wear them to take a ride, but also because their relationship is far from being perfect, so she needs to ignore the bad aspects of it (in order to stay with him)
She could be wearing the heart shaped sunglasses because all she sees for him is love. Love at first sight. Looking at him with eyes of love.
