On a literal level, she is discussing night vision, when the eye adjusts to the darkness.

Figuratively, she means that in dark or troubling times in our lives, we change who we are to be able to understand those troubles.

Some people are born in the dark. Like this guy!

From other sources I’ve read, this poem could also be about the search for knowledge. But I agree with this interpretation more.

This is one of the great ironic moments in literature. Poets, screenwriters, rappers, hipsters… they all love irony, and so do we.

He hit a home run. It was in the sky literally flying past the sun. Metaphorically it is his moment in the sun, where everyone acknowledges he is the most dominant member of the game for that fleeting moment.

He could be proud to tell his father that he hit one out. Fathers and sons sharing the game is a classic baseball theme.

He’s not saying he’s the best, he really wants that moment where everyone is cheering for him as he trots around the bases after hitting a homer. The pop refers to the sound of the bat, not his dad. As in the crack of the bat and the ball clears the fence.

He then invokes a home run call. “It’s gone!” Or Lon Simmons who called games for the SF Giants had a signature “You can tell it good-bye!”

This was referenced during the final at bat of the 1994 World Series when Joe Carter hit the game winning homerun for the Toronto Blue Jays. As he ecstatically rounds the bases he almost misses 2nd base and the Blue Jays play by play announcer Tom Cheek famously says “Touch em all Joe, you’ll never hit a bigger homerun”

He said he borned here live here like his parents, his father was a carpenter, means he didn’t like the life like this, the normal life, that could make him change his job, and the reason why he joined the Civil War in 1962.
