Growing up in New York, she’s experienced her share of learning to survive in tough and strange settings, she establishes that a survival tactic that she often finds sadly necessary in her survival as a female is to simply not look at anyone

Ani sets the mood of the song by introducing a character, possibly a past love interest who comments on her change in personality as her becoming “Tough”, but his reasons to support the claim consist of things that every human, despite gender should have right to.

In that moment that they’re connected and lying next to each other there’s no contrast between the two. They’re the same person and the same height, no one person more powerful than the other
