Jerome is the guy I was trying to remember in Slack the other day! He wanted to be a radically pro-black activist, but he didn’t really have a coherent ideology so often ended up contradicting himself. For example, he wanted the United States to stop meddling in the affairs of other countries, but also wanted the United States to force former colonial powers to pay extensive reparations to their former colonies.

He is probably best remembered for helping to popularise the use of “CAC” (creepy ass cracker) on the forums. He is now known as “Dean of CAC Genius University”. When you Google that account name, Google tells you his Genius IQ. Despite his hatred for “CACs”, his favourite rapper was Logic.

Jerome kinda sums up the sort of person who used to get made mod because they made Maboo laugh. He was demodded in the first “great purge”, lead by OG staff member Tomi Fischer.

valgui was not a real person. This was an account used by hired monkeys who copied lyrics from high-profile songs.

Jewish people are stereotypically very wealthy. While this may seem like a positive stereotype, it has long led to persecution. The perception that Jewish people were unduly wealthy was one of the reasons the Nazis gave for their campaign of anti-Semitism that resulted in the death of over six million Jews in the Holocaust. Consequently, this stereotype is a matter of great sensitivity; LeBron James apologized after quoting these lyrics on Instagram, having not realized the offense they could cause.

In response to the controversy surrounding this line 21 Tweeted:

The term Kosher refers to food that obeys the strict dietary regulations set out in the Torah. At the same time, Kosher is a Jewish slang for “all right”. 21’s money is legitimate and secure.

21 could also be referencing a similar line from Drake’s hit, “Over”:

But I really can’t complain, everything is kosher

Earth’s rotation means that the Sun appears every morning over the eastern horizon. Fozzie thinks they are heading to the West, but then the Sun rises in front of them. Rather than realising that this means they are actually heading East, Fozzie is confused and thinks the Sun has risen over the wrong horizon. This reflects his dopey persona.

This would constitute being spectacularly lost — Saskatchewan is in central Canada. This doesn’t actually happen in the film, where Fozzie and Kermit take a fairly direct route through the southern United States.

In the film, they drive past a man in a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP/Mountie) uniform on his horse during this lyric.

Fozzie and Kermit are travelling from Florida, in the south-east of the USA, to California, in the south-west, in order to audition at a film studio. Rhode Island is in the north-east. Going via Rhode Island would add around an extra 25 hours of driving onto their time. Kermit is alarmed at this, as it would mean missing their audition, but Fozzie is only saying it because it’s funny and it rhymes — it doesn’t affect the film’s plot. Fozzie’s acknowledgement of his own joke is a typical example of Muppet meta-humour.

This quote comes from Jimmy Hill. After a fairly ordinary career on the pitch, Hill found huge success as head of the Professional Footballers' Association, as a director, and as a broadcaster. He led the campaign to scrap the maximum wage, introduced “three points for a win”, and presented Match of the Day for fifteen years.

Like Brooking and Hansen, he is speaking here in the aftermath of England’s failure to qualify for the 1994 World Cup.

Bowie wrote this emotional climax after seeing Tony Visconti kissing backing singer Antonia Maaß by the Berlin Wall, which wasn’t exactly a romantic meeting point. He anonymised the encounter in order to protect Visconti’s marriage.

Visconti was also responsible for one of Bowie’s most affecting vocal performances. He set up three microphones at increasing distances from Bowie, and sequentially cut them. The song starts with an intimate whisper. At this point in the recording, Bowie is hollering in order to be picked up by the furthest microphone.

Supporting England is often all the more frustrating because of how close the team comes to success without succeeding. They were knocked out of the 1970 World Cup in the quarter finals after extra time, and then repeatedly failed to qualify for tournaments throughout the ‘70s. They were knocked out of the 1982 World Cup without losing a game, while in '86 they were knocked out by Diego Maradona’s “hand of God” goal.

This frustration is perhaps best demonstrated by England’s terrible record in penalty shootouts. Before the 2018 World Cup, England had lost six out of their seven shootouts, including in the 1990 World Cup semi-final.
