“Nocturnal” is the opening track (and the longest) of Disclosure’s second album, Caracal.

The Weeknd lends his R&B crooning to the track as he sings about insomnia and nighttime blues.

Guy Lawrence explains:

We’ve been fans of each other’s music for some time. We didn’t really know what he was like as a guy, but he turned out to be so safe and cool and chill—but not arrogant in any way. We wrote that song in Jungle Studios in New York, which is probably the coolest studio that we’ve ever been to. It has this panoramic view of Manhattan, so that informed the vibe.

In the EW interview Lawrence said:

The sun was going down and it was such a lovely vibe…and the vibe of driving around late and night, and it’s getting dark, and the beat’s pretty slow. Abel was loving it. We were all feeling that vibe and just let it flow. And it’s f—ing long, isn’t it? It’s like nothing we’ve made before.

“Pure Grinding” is one of two singles (alongside “For A Better Day”) released alongside the tracklist announcement of Avicii’s Stories.

Vocals are handled by uncredited singers Kristoffer Fogelmark and Earl St. Clair, singing about working toward the top – even if they’re not quite there yet. It’s a subversion of the “started from the bottom” trope.

The production takes harsher electro-house and funk influences. Avicii describes the song as so on his Levels podcast:

[“Pure Grinding”] is a little bit different than what I would usually do, but the whole album is gonna be different.

“He” is the new boyfriend of Keaton’s ex. Right away, it’s accusative of the relationship’s nature.

He might know her in a superficial, I-know-his-phone-number way, but does he know who she truly is in his worst moments? At least Keaton has experience with those emotions.

“Hula Hoop” is the second single from OMI’s debut album, Me 4 U.

Off the coattails of breakout hit “Cheerleader”, OMI runs with the tropical house sound that made him an international star. The instrumentation features sax and piano, just like OMI’s first hit.

This song was created by a lineup of seasoned writers and producers, experienced in making OMI’s brand of pop music. Producer and songwriter credits include Matthew Humphrey and Frank Buelles—the lyricist and composer behind the Robin Shulz remix of Mr. Probz’s “Waves,” a tropical house hit from 2014. There’s also Jenson Vaughan, a Canadian songwriter who’s worked with major stars including Madonna and Kelly Rowland. Canadian R&B artist Karl Wolf pitched in, cowriting this track. This track was crafted to be the popular successor of “Cheerleader.”

Lyrically he sings about a sunny, hula-hoop-filled day with his girl.

Fire eating is dangerous, and entertains the audience due to its risk. A less dangerous version — putting a flame into your mouth where it dies out due to the lack of oxygen — is a popular party trick. The line could also refer to smoking cigarettes and marijuana where the smoke is inhaled for a high.

Instead of torches, Halsey pops metaphorical matches because she carries out deranged acts every day. Sometimes the public witnesses these moments, but many are her own private bouts. Remember her champagne purchase?

She wants people’s attention and to feel pain, for the sensation. In all this, she’s losing herself.

Now that they’ve dyed and cut their hair, they’re testdriving the new ‘dos – with a girl’s night out.

Quality friend time is another treatment for post-breakup blues. With the benefit of another perspective, it frees them to laugh at how emotional the breakup was.

Eventually, they dance in the club, hands in the air and they don’t care. (Even if the ex ends up on the floor too.)
