“Break a sweat” is an idiom for strendous exertion, which Skrillex is familiar with.

At the most innocent level, she wants her lover to dance until sweat’s pouring out. However, more sexual undertones lay underneath. “Doing it” is sweat-inducing too, right?

In any case, she doesn’t want this night to end early, so it’s all about valuing the physical as romantic expression, sexual or otherwise.

Her ideal boy embodies two sides. The suit-and-tie part is him being responsible and intelligent during everyday life, like Clark Kent.

And then there’s Superman, who rises to the occasion whenever there’s trouble. When Daya needs someone the most, her ideal will swoop in and rescue her emotional state.

The term “all in” also comes from gambling, bookending the first verse’s “cards on the table” phrase. He bets all his effort into as falls into love.

If he is going to make any type of commitment to this girl, it’s going to be for a serious long-run.

Cry Baby lists all the things she loves about the boy she’s singing about. His skin reminds her how pleasant warm ovens are, she like sweets which she associates with his lips, and cotton is…soft. All household sensations.

Cotton pops up in “Sippy Cup” in a darker context, so it gets bittier from here:

You got weights in your pockets, when you go to the doctors
Your favorite candy’s cotton, that’s why all your teeth are rotten

The phrases “I want you” and “I need you” are common love expressions which Kwabs isn’t up for today. Those clichés no longer persuade him because so many other people, maybe his ex’s, claim wanting and neediness without proving it.

“Turn around” is a test: If his lover wants to move this relationship forward, they have to back up the talk with actions. Romantic actions and emotional support.

A monster lover isn’t a new pop concept — Lady Gaga can attest to that. In 5H’s case, the human monster’s a rule-breaking bad boy that they can’t help but love-hate, to the point of elevating him. Monsters are larger-than-life, after all, and his audacity fits the bill.

The Hotel Transylvania series involves an actual monster, specifically Dracula’s daughter being with a human. It brings troubles, but it’s more interesting than a normal monster-monster relationship.

Melanie’s homage to the nursery rhyme “One, Two, Buckle My Shoes” brings to mind Nightmare on Elm’s Street’s killer take. Martinez told Fuse:

‘Tag, You’re It’ is where Cry Baby gets kidnapped by the Big Bad Wolf. ‘Milk and Cookies’ is the next song. That is where she poisons him with milk and cookies and kills him, and escapes.

Melatonin is a supplement used to help people sleep, insinuating that Cry Baby’s plan is to kill the Wolf with sleeping pills. It’s also worth noting the similarity between the word “melatonin” and Melanie’s own name, likening herself to something that could be lethal.
