Clairity’s head voices are her negative thoughts which hold her back. They might as well be enemies by the way they hurt her. Doubt especially speaks out, since it’s quite easy to chicken out when you think you’ll lose when you try.

She spites these thoughts because she doesn’t want to prove right anyone in her life that’s against her. By fashioning these voices as a muse, she not only use them as inspiration in her music (including this very line), but in living life.

“Open Season” is a single off of Josef Salvat’s debut EP, In Your Prime. In front of a somber beat, he pleads for a distant lover to reunite with him.

The music video is a postmodernist jab at the medium’s various cliches, pointed out in subtitles. Watch it below:

A French version of the song was released in 2015, titled “Open Season (Un autre saison)”.

Banks either plays a different facet of Chet Faker’s character, or the other side of the story. Regardless, she’s also bitter.

It’s a play on two phrases based on the same body part. To scratch one’s back is symbolic for helping a friend or partner. Backscratches are, after all, comforting.

On the flipside, the backstab is a metaphor for any kind of betrayal. After her friend promised to look after her, he broke that promise and gave her pain.
