The crack’s lights represent freedom. Even though the relationship that supported her is crumbling, she welcomes falling out of love. The cracks are tiny in how unsure the future is.

Her lover tries to convince her the breakup is unneeded, that he’s not as bad as she thinks he is or perhaps that the relationship is worth saving. However, she’s already thought this through. She sensed the greater light—the life—beyond the dissolution of the relationship. This light was not blindingly clear. It required attentiveness and wisdom. How many of us would notice such light squeezing through cracks, and then actually act on it? It became clear she had to leave.

The “rumour mill” is a group of people spreading around likely falseries. It’s kind of a problem for Will, as the crowd gossips about him, downing his mood.

The “you” signifies he has qualms about one particular rumour miller, maybe a love interest or a friend he once trusted, but now have mixed feelings about.

Breaks the eternal mood the verses were building, but it fits the aquatic motif. Also, these are the guys who made “Selfie”, if you forgot.

Waterbeds shake when jumped upon; asses shake when twerked. It’s a fun framing of booty-shaking, since bed jumping is associated with childish abandon and waterbeds are…weird.

“Waterbed” is a single from EDM duo The Chainsmokers. It’s their second collab with Waterbed. It’s the beginning of a release schedule to drop one song a month.

The song uses its title as an unusual simile for twerking. The title was likely based on Waterbed’s name, like how “Roses” was based on the stage name of ROZES.

His girlfriend gets upset with him easily, because him sleeping in means less time with her. Also, she’s one of many people in his life that frown upon laziness. She loudly vents her frustration to her friends, which isn’t the best personality trait in his book.

He would leave her, but her beauty makes his youthful impulses kick in and keep him from outright leaving.

Opening with the word “bitchin” makes it clear this is a harder sound than previous singles.

“She’s Kinda Hot” is the lead single of 5 Seconds of Summer’s second album, Sounds Good Feels Good. It was released on July 17th, 2015. The song was originally going to be sung by only Ashton, but they loved it so much that they decided to make it a group effort. An alternative version plays as the album’s second track.

It’s an anthem for the “losers” and “outcasts” of the world who live proudly despite what other people say. It’s a harder pop-rock sound than their self-titled effort, with more guitars and even some profanity.

The song channels the pop-punk sound of the early 2000s, which is not surprising seeing as guitarist Michael Clifford and drummer Ashton Irwin co-wrote the song with Joel and Benji Madden of Good Charlotte.
