Doris Day

A true icon in American film and music with a career that spanned nearly 5 decades — Doris Day was known widely for her success throughout her solo music career from 1947 to 1967. Additionally, her film career began during Hollywood’s “Golden Age”, making her debut in the film Romance on the High Seas in 1948.

She went on to star in many different films during her 20-year career in movies; sensationalizing her roles in films such as Calamity Jane, The Thrill of It All, Move Over, Darling and The Man Who Knew Too Much.

Day earned herself an Academy Award Nomination for her role in 1959’s Pillow Talk with Rock Hudson. Her film career ended in 1968 until she starred in the sitcom The Doris Day Show for 5 years.

Doris has become one of the biggest film actresses from the 1950s and 1960s — As of 2020, she is one of the eight record performers having been a top box office earner in the US four times.

During her lifetime, Ms. Day has been awarded the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award as a lifetime achievement recognition for her work in film in 1989 as well as the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

After retiring to Carmel Valley in California, Day passed away on May 13, 2019 at age 97. Her legacy lives on through the Doris Day Animal Foundation to which she devoted half of her life to and is beloved by fans from around the world for her iconisim in film and music.
