Empire of the Sun

Empire of the Sun is an Australian electronic music duo best known for its 2008 single “Walking on a Dream”. They’re also known for their dreamy, ‘80s-synth-inflected sound and elaborate stage productions. Their style blends influences from new and ancient empires around the world, from Peking Opera–style robes to Incan headdresses.

The duo is formed by Nick Littlemore, frontman of the electronic duo PNAU, and Luke Steele, lead singer of the alternative rock band The Sleepy Jackson.

The two started working together in 2007 and hit it big with their first album, Walking on a Dream.

For their second album, Ice on the Dune, Littlemore and Steele described themselves as “The Lord” and “The Emperor”, respectively, going on “a post-apocalyptic psychedelic adventure”.
