Johanna Hall

AKA: Johanna Schier, Johanna Dean Hall, and Johanna D. Hall

About Johanna Hall

Johanna Hall (née Schier) was the wife of John Hall, co-founder of the pop rock band Orleans. After meeting each other at Cafe Wha in Greenwich Village and marrying in 1971, they decided to turn their personal relationship into a professional partnership.

The two of them co-wrote many of the band’s songs as a duo, most notably their first two hits “Still the One” and “Dance with Me”. They also wrote Janis Joplin’s song “Half Moon”, which would re-appear on Orleans' own debut album two years later. The band’s second album features a song named after her, “Sweet Johanna”, written about their relationship.

The couple had one daughter, Lillian Sofi Hall, and divorced in 1985.
