Kele

Kele Okereke, also known mononymously as Kele, is a British singer-songwriter, guitarist, pianist, and record producer from East London. He is best known for being the frontman of indie rock four-piece Bloc Party, but has also released five solo albums — The Boxer (2010), Trick (2014), Fatherland (2017), 2042 (2019) and The Waves Pt. 1 (2021) — and has collaborated with electronic musicians such as The Chemical Brothers, Sub Focus, RAC, Tiesto and Martin Solveig. He released two instrumental house EPs with Crosstown Rebels in 2013–14.

His lyrical arsenal tackles a great deal of different subjects: love, lust, death, politics, prejudice, alienation, and the monotony of the daily grind, just to name a few.

Okereke has received considerable media attention for being a gay black man; he’s explored his sexuality on songs like “I Still Remember”, “Humour Me” and “Fortress”. While he’s gained a “reputation for being difficult” in interviews, Kele’s no stranger to embracing social media. He writes occasional op-eds for the Vice network and has run a Tumblr blog since 2010, where he shares an insight into his role models, favourite songs, artists and films.
